"Raise Awareness"

"Raise Awareness" used to be one of my least favorite terms because it is most often associated with informing people on a certain tragedy but not offering any solutions to fix the problem. However, I have come to view raising awareness in a different light. My new version of raising awareness is informing the student body about the many opportunities with student senate, and let them decide if they would like to be an active participant around campus. That would be my role as SBP. With an increase in student population, there should be an increase in senate's outreach on campus. Not in size but in presence. This is not for attention to be drawn to myself but to make student senate a big deal and ultimately for the betterment of campus involvement and atmosphere.

FIRE

In January, my tennis coach challenged my teammates and I to pick a word that describes our personal, academic, and athletic goals.  The first word that popped into my mind was "fire." Fire in the sense of passion.  I want to be on fire for everything that I'm doing. On fire for the Lord, school, tennis, and senate. Fire can be broken down into more concise words: commitment, passion, and dedication.  If elected President, I will be committed, passionate, and dedicated to the task at hand.  I will be on fire.

Meet and Greet

Today (Thursday March 20) I will be having a meet and greet at TOL from 6:30-7:30pm. Please come and let me know what you think about campus and possible future improvements.  For 30 minutes of this time, you will be able to hear my real voice! If that's not incentive to come, then I don't know what is. Here's another bonus: free drink while supplies last!

I've been Preparing for This

In October, I decided that I wanted to run for student body president.  I've not only used that time to prepare my campaign video, but I have attended senate meetings, talked to active participants in student senate, and kept up to date with senate activities. Over these last 5 months, I have been thinking about what type of president I would be and how I can support the many groups on campus. One of the major policy changes that I've heard many students and some administrators talk about is open dorm hours.   Open dorm times are often hated and thought of as awkward.  I believe this thought stems from not having open dorms very often. If elected president, I will work with the student body to revise the policy and hopefully create a better atmosphere for guy-girl friendships.

Character (Video #1)

I recorded this video before my surgery because I knew it would be hard for me to talk. Integrity and character are very important to me, especially when it comes to being a leader.

Sarah for President Campaign Video

Produced by your very own Sarah Hinkel

About My Campaign

Hello everyone!
My name is Sarah Hinkel and I'm running for Student Body President at Grace College.  I will use this blog to mainly post videos that explain my ideas on how I want student senate and Grace campus to look in the 2014-15 school year.  My situation right now is unique. Over Spring Break, I had jaw surgery. If you've seen me around campus, you've probably noticed that my jaw is wired and I can't talk that well. Don't worry, I'll be able to talk normally by the time the next school year starts.  I don't want that to deter you from coming up to me and having a conversation. Of course it will take patience on both of our parts. If you have any questions that you would like me to answer via video, please comment on this page, send me an email to hinkelsm@grace.edu, or ask anonymously at ask.fm/notababy_Hinks. I look forward to this campaign week!
